For over 95 years, the Aylesbury Bar has stood as a pillar of hospitality and community, steeped in a legacy that spans generations. Originally established in 1928, our establishment has witnessed countless moments of laughter, camaraderie, and celebration, woven into the fabric of our historic building.

Built by Locals, Loved by Travellers

1928: Construction of the hotel commenced.
1929: The hotel officially opened its doors.
1943: Owner E. J. Pallansch applied for a beer license.
1946: Mrs. Morin became the hotel's owner.
1961: Fred & Zita Meger assumed ownership of the hotel.
1973: Al & Christiane Sapieha became the proprietors.
1979: The Sapiehas expanded the hotel, increasing seating to 52 and adding a dance floor.
1988: Nigel and Joanne McAlphine took over ownership.
1997: Terry & Shannon Scott became the owners.
2000: Lana & Lyle Hodgins assumed ownership.
2014: Lyle Hodgins & Glen Schroder took over as owners.
2024: Lisa & Sheldon Watkins and Kathy & Barry Williams wrote their chapter as owners.
2025: Lisa & Sheldon Watkins became the new owners.

Today, Lisa and Sheldon Watkins carry forward Aylesbury’s tradition with the same prairie grit that built this hotel in 1928. You’ll find them behind the bar during Rider games, stocking the pit-stop shelves with local treats, or sharing tales of the hotel’s storied past.
